The Design Process

Initial design

The project began with identifying a workplace problem: professionals struggling with decision-making due to limited critical thinking skills.

This gap was affecting their ability to analyse information, solve problems, and make effective decisions under pressure.

My first step was conducting a needs analysis to understand the skills learners needed to develop. From this, I drafted learning objectives focusing on practical application in business scenarios to create my storyboard.

Solution

I created an eLearning course in Articulate Rise 360 with these features:

  • Real-World Scenarios: Learners tackle challenges like selecting reliable information, solving team performance issues, and making decisions under stress.

  • Interactive Activities: Drag-and-drop exercises, mind mapping tools, and timed decision-making challenges to engage learners.

  • Multimedia Content: Videos featuring industry insights and visually appealing modules to simplify complex concepts.

  • Assessment and Reward: A quiz-based final assessment with a personalized certificate upon completion, incentivizing learners to demonstrate mastery.

  • Encouraged Reflection: A forum board was incorporated to allow learners to reflect on scenarios, fostering peer learning and deeper engagement. This ensured participants could share their perspectives and learn from diverse approaches to problem-solving.

The course is designed to equip learners with the ability to:

  • Make better business decisions, leading to an improvement in ROI or KPIs by at least 10-30%.

  • Evaluate and analyze information critically in business contexts.

  • Apply problem-solving frameworks like Root Cause Analysis and SWOT Analysis.

  • Make sound, objective decisions even in high-pressure situations.

The anticipated outcome is a noticeable improvement in decision-making and problem-solving skills among learners, leading to more efficient workflows and better team performance in their organizations.

Results

Building an effective course requires extensive research and numerous iterations. I realized the importance of incorporating diverse learner engagement methods, such as interactive tools and reflection opportunities, to ensure the content remains relevant and impactful.
